Courvoisier Cognac Paris – Origin

In 1809, Emmanuel Courvoisier joined forces with Louis Gallois, mayor of Bercy. Together, they decided to create a wine and spirits company on the outskirts of Paris. They chose Bercy, a nearby river that favored transportation, a city where the wine trade was already thriving, and no taxes to pay because the city was outside Paris.

Futhermore,In 1811, Napoleon Bonaparte visited the warehouses and a legend says that during his exile on the island of St. Helena in 1815, he took some barrels of Cognac with him, which were highly appreciated by the English officers and which they called “Napoleon’s cognac”. Félix Courvoisier, son of Emmanuel Courvoisier, joined forces with Jules Gallois in 1835 and together they built the first Courvoisier company in Jarnac.
